Welcome to the TexomaRC 3D Freestyle Rodeo
Hello, this invitation comes to you from the TexomaRC Modelers [AMA#0276], in Sherman Texas. The purpose is to invite you to attend our first annual TexomaRC 3D Freestyle Rodeo. The event is sanctioned by the Academy of Model Aeronautics [Sanction #19037] to be held July 10-11, 2026 (Fri-Sun).
Background - After review, the freestyle event appears to be the only major 3D event of its kind coming to North Texas. A goal is to have fun! Display high torque maneuvers observed in RC aircraft; while, adding a western flair reflecting the folklore of “Wild Bill Pecos” riding a Tornado. An image that illustrates “rifle rolls & chaotic’ flying observed in high energy maneuvers by “on-the-edge” RC pilots.
The TexomaRC Club has been around since 1970 and established for 50+ years. The location is the Pete Darter Field located south of US-82 between Whitesboro and Sherman TX, south of US82 toward Southmayd. We invite participants from the DFW Metroplex and the many AMA RC Clubs within this area & anywhere else in Texas; as well as, OK, AR, LA, and more. The location is central to the SC-IMAC Region; and, receptive to giant-scale RC Aircraft.
Another element we strive for is to partnership with the local non-RC community to help promote the Science involved in Model Aviation; and more specifically, the weekend after the 4th of July; where, on that July 4th weekend is home to the long running (68+ years) Texoma Whitesboro Rodeo. Why?
There is a certain element of risk between bull-riding; barrel racing; steer wrestling and high energy torque rolls, dives, slides, and stalls associated in a freestyle 3D $5,000-$10,000 RC Plane. All of which offers an entertaining "pucker factor" element of visual risk. An aspect of risk that appeals to observers both in the arial arena as well as a rodeo arena. Where spectators for both endeavors appreciate the risks taken either on the ground in the dirt by western rodeo competitors or spectators viewing pilots on the sticks of a transmitter as the pilot attempts constantly to escape sometimes the inevitable high risk ground contact.
Given this, we invite you to attend at no charge. Your attendance is most appreciated in advance and we hope you can make it.

Background - Why The Event On This Particular Weekend - After some research and review, this freestyle event appears to be one if not the only major 3D-Freestyle RC event of its kind coming to North Texas. The goal is to have fun! Display high torque maneuvers observed in RC aircraft; while, adding a western flair reflecting the folklore of “Wild Bill Pecos” riding a Tornado. An image that illustrates rifle-rolls, tail slides, stalls, and recoveries observed in high energy maneuvers by “on-the-edge” RC pilots. And, falls a week after the 68+ year running Whitesboro Rodeo.
The TexomaRC Club has been around since 1970 and established for 50+ years. We invite participants from the DFW Metroplex and the many AMA RC Clubs within this area & Texas; as well as, OK, AR, LA, and more. The location is central to the SC-IMAC Region; and, continuously receptive to giant-scale RC Aircraft; where, your products are used. Given this, our request is simple:
We appeal to your model aviation product support to help make this event “go big”! With either an on-site presence to promote your merchandise or implied via donated or discounted merchandise coupons; that, we can help you via distribution to RC pilots.
As mentioned earlier, another element we are striving for is to partnership with public attendance to promote the continued interest and growth in The Science of Model Aviation. With that, the weekend after the 4th of July specifically; where, on that July 4th weekend is home to the long running (68+ years) Texoma Whitesboro Rodeo. Why the Rodeo Motif?
The elements of energy combined with risk between bull-riding; barrel racing; steer wrestling and such, are almost synonymous with the high energy torque rolls observed in a freestyle 3D plane. Combine this with patterns displayed by Ranch Trail Riding, and these endeavors offer an entertaining element of skill, visual risk, an aspect that appeals to observers both in the arial arena as well as a rodeo arena. Where spectators of both appreciate those risks taken either on the ground or on the sticks of a transmitter as the competitors/pilots strive for as much chaotic energy while escaping high risk ground contact.
Given this, we invite you to attend at no charge. Your attendance either implied or in person in support of this event is most appreciated in advance. We hope you can make it.
You are encouraged to (Bring Your Own Tent – BYOT) as our covered pit area isn't as robust as one might think - we are in Tornado country after all.
Spectator Information
If you love airshows, you and your family will surely enjoy this event. Here you will see the art of 3D-Freestyle RC Flying with large planes using 120cc gas engines or larger. These planes will be spiraling through the air approaching the ground at high velocity and where the pilots hope to pull out at the last minute. The speeds combined with the erratic maneuvers will keep you on the edge of your seat. Akin to a bull riding event where you never know when the plane will get the best of the pilot.
Saturday is usually the best spectator day and admission is free. TexomaRC will accept and greatly appreciate donations but those are not a requisite to attending and enjoying these skilled pilots engaged in some hair-raising flying.
Our event offers a friendly family atmosphere and on Saturday includes a food stand serving lunch, snacks and refreshments. There may be a raffle with the opportunity to win a model airplane. Bring your own chairs, shade, and the whole family!”
Typical Airshow Lineup for Saturday – High Noon Showdown!
> Giant Scale RC Airplanes Engaged in Freestyle 3D Flying - All Day Long
> If we can, an RC Helicopter Flying (That Is Totally Wicked!) – Defying Gravity, Aviation, and Rational Flying.
> Almost anything else RC Related all day long as Long as its pushing the border of sanity versus chaos!
Schedule Subject to Change
No event on Sunday!
The Next Video provides a taste of what to expect in terms of flying.
This is Jase "The Ace" Dussia flying at the 2025 Huckfest in Louisiana.
No guarantees he'll make it; but, we can always hope.
(For the Record - This Is Not AI !)
Lodging & Camping
Travel Trailers and RV’s are welcome at the field; pets are okay but must be leashed; unfortunately, due to potential limited trailer spacing, spots are reserved initially for 3D/Freestyle pilots and vendors. After a cutoff 2 weeks prior to the event, remaining spots will be open to other attendees at a modest fee.
At present, the fees for Travel-Trailer and RV parking for all attendees is set at $15 per space for dry camping and $30 for the few electrical hookups. Cost will be for the event duration; and, $40/day for non-pilots or vendors.
There are no sewage or water hookups – dry camping only. However, we do have about 5 electrical hookups to commercial power.
There are quite a few RV Parks within a 10 minute drive to the field.

Event Director Information
The Event Director is Conrad (Wing Skidder) Nerdahl
Why 'Wing Skidder'? That's what friends have said he's been doing since the 1970's - Skidding up his wing tips on lopsided wind vaned landings - carrier type landings.
Be prepared for a phenomenal event where risk is not an alternative but a mandate when flying 3D/Freestyle Aircraft.
